Service disclaimer

We agree to perform the Services with due care and skill.

We reserve the right to refuse any request that we deem inappropriate, unreasonable or illegal. We are an LGBTIQA+-friendly business, and we support the Own Voices movement. We reserve the right to refuse to work with clients and material we deem to be racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, racially or culturally insensitive, xenophobic or ableist.

You may request additional services via the Site. We have discretion as to whether we agree to perform such additional services. If we agree to perform the additional services, we will issue you with a new proposal to set out the scope of the services and the fee for such services. You will be expected to pay the fee for such additional services before we commence performing them.

The Editor is in no way responsible for advising on legal issues such as (but not limited to) privacy, copyright, defamation, intellectual property, business in confidence or representations made by the Client in the material. Where possible, the Editor may provide an opinion on questionable material as soon as it is discovered.

The Editor assumes the Client has obtained all necessary third-party intellectual property rights for material that may be utilised in, referred to or illustrated as part of the material—the intellectual property ownership of materials vests with the originator.

The Client indemnifies the Editor for any claims arising out of the use or distribution of the material.

The Editor does not guarantee or make any assurances that edited work will be picked up for publication by an agent or publishing house. Nor that any additional services (i.e. blurbs, query letters, synopsises etc.) will lead to publication or increase sales of your book. The publishing industry is very subjective—all we can do is get your manuscript into the best shape that we can.

As editing is not an exact science, no two editors will deliver the exact same changes to a project. The Editor provides editorial assessment, recommendations and changes based on their own skills, experience and qualifications and, as such, cannot be refused payment if the Client disagrees with some or all of the assessment. It is the nature of the work. The Editor endeavours to ensure all work delivered to the Client is error-free, however very occasionally an error can slip through. It is the Client’s responsibility to check the work prior to publication or dissemination, including accuracy and fact-checking. The Editor recommends all clients engage the services of a proofreader to make final corrections on the proof copy of the manuscript to ensure the best publishable product.
